About the Castle Name Generator
The Castle Name Generator is a free tool that names single fortifications: fantasy castles, keeps, fortresses, citadels, strongholds, and holds. Pick a setting for the terrain the walls rise from, choose the structure whose fortification word should appear in the name, and generate as many batches as you like, with an optional defensive reputation on some results. There is no account, no daily limit, and no premium tier, and everything the tool produces is yours to use in fantasy novels, tabletop campaigns, video game worlds, and worldbuilding projects, personal or commercial.
Built at the scale of a single stronghold
This site deliberately works at the scale of one fortification on a map. Its corpus is built from original place-name roots for six terrains, plus descriptive adjectives and a pool of defensive epithets, assembled through the naming patterns real castles actually follow: named for the place they stand on, named for the house that raised them, or named for a feature every traveler could see. The structure selector keeps the military vocabulary honest, so a keep comes out a keep and a citadel comes out a citadel, a distinction our guide to fortress types unpacks in full. Every root is invented; the generator contains no real castle names and no fortifications from existing franchises, so what it gives you is safe to build on.
Our sibling site, the Kingdom Name Generator, works at the opposite scale: the whole realm your castles defend. The two split the map cleanly. Name the kingdom first, then garrison its borders with castles from here, and use the mountain and forest generators for the terrain in between.
